For about 2 years pretty much all I listened to was hip hop. Commercial and underground. The production on hip hop records is so ridiculous I love it, I'm a sucker for 808 beats though. Some cool underground stuff to check out (if you haven't heard) is cannibal ox. They're long gone at this point but they did some killer stuff while they existed.

As far as music goes, I probably listen to metal the least, I've listened to metal as long as I can remember and I always love it, but I like listening to anything I can get my hands on. Pulling inspiration from places you wouldn't expect. I've already mentioned St Vincent is my favorite band but for example I have been listening to "Jimmy Eats World - Clarity" about 4 times a week lately.

Although I was on a stoner/doom kick today, listened to "Yob - the unreal never lived" today. sometimes that album makes me want to just give up. It's perfect.

I don't know what that is. So, what is it?

Edit: Ahh, ok, Crown. Nothing wrong with that. I looked at some, I'm spacing on what about it pushed it out of the running against those three I mentioned.

Ron you raise a great point about hip hop. Some of the production behind it is just awesome. I was a huge Beastie Boys fan, and if you removed the vocals from a lot of their tracks they are still incredibly awesome. I like a lot of the instrumentation in hip hop. Here's a good example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsZKrctSDaw

Lol now I'm going back through all my old hip hop. When I first got my driver's license, I drove around my dad's Chevy 3500 extended bed extended cab with this song on loop all the time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUXpNMMqW1A

Yeah that band is Rad and one of the dudes in it is from where I am. He's kind of a major player in the chiptune scene. I wish I was half as good at programming as he is.

it's a shame they don't have more stuff out. Those three songs are the only ones I'm aware of. I have some of his solo stuff which is really solid though.

Check it out here.

Yes, and it was the Magma's fault, not Peavey's. That's when my Magma leaked DC voltage out the preamp out...

Called Peavey. They gave me the address of the nearest authorized service place.
Took it there. Repair schematics for the IPRs weren't released yet, so he had to ship it to Peavey.
Got it back in like two weeks and they replaced half the electronics, no questions asked and no money charged.
In the end just had to pay shipping.

I was really impressed with how easy the whole thing was. If I needed a PA I'd buy another one in a heart beat.

Just for ***** and giggles, here's that video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofa9kYy4G_U

That's good to know. I remember you saying that it was the preamp frying out the IPR. That's why I don't get too riled about stories of power amps blowing up. The cause is usually more to do with misuse or a failure in some other piece of gear, rather than the power amp just spontaneously melting down. That and a lot of people purchase based on the peak power rating at the minimum impedance as being what the power they want to constantly run it at, which is wackadoo.

Gonna pull the trigger on an IPR 1600 I think then.

That video is the stuff of nightmares. Oh, it's worth mentioning that I sent Nick the IPR 1600 specs as a something I might possibly run the preamp into, when he was figuring out the output impedance/voltage and all the stuff.

Hell yeah, I love hip hop. Del, MF Doom, Kool Keith, Atmosphere, Aesop Rock, Murs. There's a ton more that I can't think of. I've got a spotify playlist of alot of stuff I dig. Check it out if you're curious.

While I was waiting on the Magma, I actually did a few Billows gigs running Bass => Bluebeard => PA input. It didn't sound fantastic, but good enough to get by with. Was pretty impressed.

I'll have to check it out. I'm way out of the loop on hip hop. I really only listen to stuff I listened to in high school/college. Del, Handsome Boy Modeling School, Jurassic 5, Beastie Boys, Wu-Tang/GZA/RZA, Jedi Mind Tricks, Run DMC, etc.

My favorite JMT track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sE3qm3MoW7Y

I like how irritatingly trebly and caustic the sound of some Beastie Boys stuff is.

Every pedal should have a more heavy mode.
