I can totally believe that.

Oh man, it's turning into punk rock afternoon here. COC - Eye for an Eye lead to Black Flag - The First Four Years, which lead to OFF! - The first four EPs. What should be next? I'm thinking DRI...

EDIT: Don't even think of mentioning Rollins-era Black Flag.

meh...Anti Flag has some awesome bass playing. Die For The Government is a great record but, almost the only one worth a damn.

Casualties...the lead singer tried to rape my friend. I had no clue this happened until after the fact. My friend came up to me the next time they were in town and said, "watch this". Went straight up to him, hit him with an uppercut, and sent him backflipping over the merch table. She split right after. When I called her the next day, she told me everything. That dude is a scumbag. I only wish I would have know about that before hand, it would have been me knocking his ass out instead of her. (probably the toughest 100lb chick I know)

Whoa. Never been familiar with their stuff (or anti-flag for that matter), but I'll not be listening to them. Rape kind of goes against the thoughts and attitudes of the old punk bands that I like. I don't think Ian MacKaye or Keith Morris were the rape-y type. I don't know for sure, but I have a hunch...

I could put together a really banging list of punk bands if you are on a punk kick. Of course there are so many great bands, but there are a handful of bands I always come back to. Even though, I am not a "punk rocker" anymore.

Yeah, I was super into it in high school, and I pretty much listen to what I did back then, being the grumpy old man that I am.

I like early black flag, misfits, ramones, agnostic front, government issue, saccharine trust, corrosion of conformity, minor threat, cruci****s, rorshach, extreme noise terror, destroy, amebix, slapshot, sick of it all, DRI, nomeansno and a bunch more that I'm spacing on right now. But I'll take suggestions for stuff from that era, or stuff that sounds like that.

DFL (if you have ever listened to punk and what happened between '80s hardcore and '90s skate punk, this bridges that gap. VERY UNDERATED)
7 Seconds
Gorilla Biscuits
88 Finger Louie
The Neighbors
Spermbirds
H2O
The Fartz
Sick Pleasure
Angry Samoans
Fang
Cause For Alarm
Maybe there is something here that is new for you!

Not all of these bands are from the era you enjoyed, but they are all good bands.

I was actually being semi-sarcastic about the bands i mentioned, most "true punks" I know consider them the enders of real punk rock. They took the image and attitude and sold it out to warped tour and beyond. Anti-Flag DFTG was a good album when i was 15/16 and i still get the nostalgic feeling from listening to it but anything after that went downhill quickly. And the casualties were always fvcked up d!ckhead street punks, known for the kinds of activities that you mention in your post. I understand the I dont give a flying fvck punk rock attitude but it was also about human rights and equality, not mysoganistic abuse and rape. If you tried that sh!t in the crust scene you better prepare for the beat down of your life, if you thought you could take advantage of someone due to your size and power they were going to show you how it felt to be the victim, street punks didn't give a fvck though. As long as they could busk for or steal enough money for a bottle of 99 apples or peppermint schnaps they didn't give an F about anyone else.

Actually come to think of it the only time I saw the Casualties was in baltimore at the sidebar, a bunch of Skins were there and someone in the band decided to hit on one of the skin's gf's and then get into an argument with a group of 20 skins. Lets just say the night didn't end well for the whole band. I wonder how many times that band has gotten their @sses handed to em.

Not enough times! They keep putting Tampa/St. Pete on their tours.

I did sense some sarcasm on your post. But, a lot of kids have taken to them because of the street punk image.

I did enjoy Die For The Government, but Andy was in the band back then. Justin Sane ruined it.
