I had a fender 2x12 with EVM12L's in it and it sounded god-like w/ the Sunn Sentura II.
At the same time I had a Crate 4x12 w/ celestion greenbacks, which sounded decent on its own, but muddy and mushy next to the fender cab.
Not the best direct comparison, but the difference was night and day. |

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Aug 2012 Location: Madison, WI | | | Here's some updated pics from my SF300 rehouse project. It looks a bit like a picasso in that everything is in an unusual place and unsymmetrical, but that will make it unique. The strange placement is by necessity, I had to trim the board down significantly (lets hope it still works) to get it to fit, and had to work with the space I had. (I should have gone with smaller pots) This way I'll have lots of real estate for graphics at least. I plan on getting it wired up tonight hopefully.
If it ends up being effed up from the rehouse (SMD is unforgiving), I plan on just building an FZ-2 clone on vero board and using the same box. That said, I still haven't found an FZ-2 vero (or non-vero I suppose) layout anywhere on the web. Anyone know of one? |

Then he'll have the option of running his V4 with the Matamp, or the Roccaforte with the Avatar.
He said he basically is looking for a pretty transparent cab with clarity, volume and depth. Basically wants the cab to make the Rocca sound like the Rocca, without any coloring from the cab. He's thinking of doing Celestion CL 80s. That puts the cab at 320w and gives plenty of head room. He's not incredibly opinionated on speakers, but knows he's not a fan of V30s.
So, opinions on Avatar cabs, and speaker advice, while keeping in mind he wants to retain the clarity of his amp. | I've heard great things about the avatar contemporary cab's, solid construction and great value as well as good color options for customizing. As far as speakers what amp is he going to be using with it? If he's looking for decent headroom, accurate reproduction of the amps tone / transparency, and he doesn't like v30's then i highly recommend either the WGS ET65's or the Weber 65's. They are celestion g12-65h clones with upgrades. I have the WGS in my 4x12 and the Weber's in my 6x12 and they are amazing, my favorite 12's by far. Good low end, smooth mids, and sweet high's. 4 of them in a 4x12 handles 260 watts, and they handle my 225w VB-2 with no problems at all. If you don't believe me just ask Geoff he raves about his as well (I believe they are what are in his Verellen cab.)

The EVM12L's and clones are amazing high wattage speakers, I have 2 Eminence Delta pro-12a's (EVM12L clones) in my ported 2x12 and they are amazing, 400w power handling each, HUGE low end, but they are lacking a little in the high end department, plus they take guitar and bass equally as awesome.

My guitar player got his mom to send him his old Big Muff to him for christmas...up until now hes just been using the Peaveys onboard distortion and a Keeley modded blues driver. HOLY HELL. When we get into a big riff, we sound like a Mammoth stepping on you. It also surprising, well obviously mid scooped, but with those missing mids, I fill those in, so you can hear me easier.
Its a 70's muff, all rusty and dirty, big 'ol box, just awesome. |

My old avatar had g12h30s in them along with V30s. I think the g12h30s are a really nice sounding speaker but not a ton of wattage handling.
Weber wise Im all about fane clones. I mix mine with 2 Weber 65s |

It's the same dimensions as their guitar cab, but I figure with some high wattage speakers and coupled with a sweet tube amp it could be a pretty gnarly rig. |
