BUDGIE! Though to be honest, Napoleon Bona Parts 1 & 2 is a fine track than either of those...

"stop wanking and play the bass"

AGREED! I posted a similar thought on a Victor Wooten solo bass wankfest video, and caught a lot of **** for it!

Played a show with Budgie's drummer a few years ago.

Which one? I can't help but feel I'd be best suited to jamming with Pete Boot.

You can wank any time so long as nobody else can see or hear you doing it.

There's room in music for people to do both as they choose.

Just outta curiosity, why do you care? If someone wants to slap the hell outta their bass instead of conforming to your idea of what bass HAS TO BE, how is this negatively affecting you? I understand disliking someone's playing or style, but why do you insist on this being "the wrong way" or something?

Haters gonna hate. That's part of it I think. I've never understood why some people think a musical ARTIST should conform THEIR art into something that pleases a the listener. I understand that paying a paid professional bassist on a gig has a list or requirements that might not include elaborate playing or showboating. That's one thing because at that point the bass player has a job and is being paid to deliver something. But to gripe about what someone does at a bass clinic, solo workshop or youtube video and describe it as "wanking" just strikes me the wrong way on so many levels. For god's sake, let's let people make music and art they way they sit fit in their own eyes. Feel free to like or dislike anything you wish, but to call it wanking is ridiculous.

Wanking is supposed to allude to self-satisfaction, but honestly, isn't making music at ANY level self-gratifying, whether one is show boating or not?

Flame suit on.

It's the kind of forum where.. short of calling someone a douchebag, or being otherwise abusive, you can pretty much put any idea out there that you want. You should be all over that Greenboy. If being obnoxious or contrary was against the rules, you'd have been outta here some time ago. Free speech is a constitutional right (and this post was an excercise in it).

The same way fingernails scraping across a chalkboard negatively affects me. Sure......they have all the right in the world to scrape their fingernails across the chalkboard, and if that is their form of artistic expression, more power to them. But why do they have to do it when other people are within earshot?

Send them all off to some remote island where they won't disturb anyone, and then they can pursue their artform to their heart's content without causing others to reach for the Excedrin and ear plugs.

LOL: I believe Yoko Ono did that album already.

I use hammerons, pull offs, string bends, vibrato, love whammy bars and own more fuzz pedals than most of you have ever seen.
I can play as tastelessly as any one.

I also like classical music and romantic walks on the beach ..Oops wrong forum.

I have a sense of humor too….just thought a thread about bassist who take a more traditional role would be nice for a change.

The title did get you to read it . Naner Naner :-P
