So I've been listening to Youth of Today and Judge all morning and realised no one ever talks about how good the bassists are in these bands!!! I'm definitely digging Matt Pincus little fills and lines on Judge's Bringin' It Down LP. And not to mention Arthur Smilios's playing on one of favorite records of all time, Start Today from Gorilla Biscuits!! So what do you guys think of some of the old moshing hardcore bassists? |

I hope that doesn't happen here!! I was hoping for a discussion on the music rather than straight-edge itself. So before this turns into a hate storm, have you guys heard Salad Days by Minor Threat? The bass playing on that one is really different for a hardcore song!! |

I am not edge, but I am going to go rock some Earth Crisis for the heck of it.

The music's bearable though, even if Fugazi were the only Straight-Edge band to break the mainstream.

Not a big fan of the music, except xAFBx and The Ghost Inside.
DoomandHeavy: yes, sadly that's so true... I can get a bit zealous myself but I'm not going to propagate my beliefs here. Good thing this isn't Youtube or everyone leaving a comment here would be flamed by everyone else. |

like i said, all religious and political arguments are closed immediately, my personal beliefs get attacked for several days, sometimes weeks before a mod steps in.
if someone can keep this objective, then by all means. but it wont. people have already started hinting at talking crap.

Never made it to a recording...it was fast, Kid Dynamite type hardcore.
My band mates always said it would start fights, thats why it never got recorded.....guess it's right when some say SxE attracts haters.
I have a bunch of sxe friends....they sure are somethin'

Craig Setari (Sick Of It All) was in Youth Of Today around the 'Break Down The Walls" era and is an incredible bassist.
As far as GB, I like their first 7" better bass wise. Arthur is great! It's mixed in a lot better than on Start Today.
Judge-Bringin It Down! I agree with that. Matt is rocking on this one. Plus the bass is mixed very well so you can hear it clearly. He was really good!
Last but not least......Rich from INSTED. I've seen those guys a bunch of times and Rich is solid and melodic. Nice guy too!
I'm definitely straight edge and have been for 22 years. XXX

Burn is way better than O9mm I think.

Oh and if we are speaking about great bass lines in hardcore...I'm a huge fan of Underdog. Way ahead of their time. |
