Stu Hamm performance

I just returned from a Stu Hamm show. A local music store managed to snag him for an evening enroute to Toronto. Best parts: very small venue and the performance was no charge. I have been a fan for a number of years and especially like the work he did on Satriani's 'Flying in a Blue Dream'. As per the usual, he had his red Urge and a Hartke setup, the 3500 into a 410 and a 115. His live tone is definitely 'plucky'. Very bright but accentuates his melodic style of play well, I feel. He managed to create a very cool vibe in the room. I glanced around and everyone was diggin' him from a different place. You could clearly see it on folk's faces. He also possesses a considerable wit: let's just say Jeff Berlin's ears are burning...Afterwards, he did a meet n' greet, with pics and cd signings. I thanked him for dropping by and was left with the impression that he is imbued with a genuine humility. He seems like the sort of fellah you could have a beer with down the pub. Cool show, absolutely amazing virtuosity, and great audience interaction. How was your Tuesday evening? |
