So i have to admit that i am not the most knowledgable person on Styx but i just have one question...Why were there two bassists playing on stage? Any ideas who they were?

hmm

Hmm strange, i supported Styx on tour in 2005 and they didnt do anything like that to my memory, i think perhaps its the old bass player comes on for a few songs and the new one just stayed on stage on something?

could be. it just caught me off gaurd because one looked like he was playing a Moon-style J-Bass and the other was playing a 5 string '51 P-style bass. both of them rock out but it was like they didn't want to aknowledge the other one. i have heard of stereo amplification but stereo bassists is new to me. haha

The original bass player from Styx, Chuck Panozzo

The original bass player from Styx, Chuck Panozzo, had quit the band for health reasons (he is HIV positive). He is still on good terms with the band and will make guest appearances on bass periodically.

I was a huge Styx fan in the late 70s. I'd recommend the following albums;

- Equinox - 1975
- Crystal Ball-1976
- Grand Illusion-1977 (this is the jewel in their crown)

I'd add Pieces of Eight from 1978 to that list. Good picks.

Ironic

A non-musical buddy of mine was just asking me if there were any rock/pop bands that had 2 bassists? I told him that I didn't know of any, and then were sitting around watching Spike TV and then there are 2 bassists in Styx. Who would've thunk it.....

Grand Illusion is my favorite. Equinox and Crystal Ball are tied for #2. If I was goign to expand my list to 4, Pieces of Eight would definatley be the one.

Cool styx

I don't know anything about bass playing but I can help answer your question... the one in the sunglasses is Chuck Panozzo. He and his brother (who played drums and is now passed on) founded Styx when they were 12. Chuck is still very much a part of the band but is only able to play a few songs during their shows as he has been quite ill over the past few years. I was lucky enough to hang out with Styx a few weeks ago before a show they played in Ontario, it will no doubt be one of the greatest moments of my life.
