Sykes/Portnoy + Bassist TBA

Sign in to disble this ad
Just saw some tweets from Eddie Trunk about a new band. It is a project featuring John Sykes on guitar/vocals (of Whitesnake, Blue Murder and Thin Lizzy fame) and Mike Portnoy ( former drummer for Dream Theater). The bassist is TBA. Curious as to who it might turn out to be. Who's out there on the market so to speak? I know Sykes worked with Tony Franklin, but he is playing in Kenny Wayne Shepherd's band.

According to Portnoy, they are working with a bassist already. Maybe can't announce due to some contractual stuff? He said it is in the vein of killer power trios.

I was trying to think of guys who might be available (Geezer, Newstead for exame) but maybe it is someone unexpected if they are keeping it quiet.

That would be my best guess. Portnoy worked with him before on Liquid Tension Expiriment, and that turned out well.

Well, he has said that this band will be with nobody that he has worked with before, so that rules out Levin and Sheehan. Although. I would love to see Billy in that slot. And i cant honestly see Newsted in a band that will be compared to the 87 whitesnake either... Im anxious to find out who it is though

He is actually with Thin Lizzy now, and talked about how cool it was with a different feel than when Sykes was there. Otherwise, he'd have been my first thought.
