Definitely a journeyman player who has been bringing the funk to various gigs for a long time. I have a David Sancious album from the late 70's with him on it. Great stage presence too.

I think if I met him he was most probably get on my nerves. But he's funny to watch, theres an intro to his instructial video on youtube, he's talking whilst playing bass then randomly goes "HOLD ON!" and starts skatting what hes playing on bass with the ole James Brown percussive type vocals.

Is it true he sang on James Brown's 'America'? He is a great singer aswell.

As well as being a great bassist, he is definitely a promoter of image, but that gets you a lot of work in this business.
I love his playing though!

Great player but he's 'out there'!! Would probably get a hell of a lot more gigs if he lost the 'crazy dude' act! Killer player though. One of those cats that can do anything on the bass.......literally!

First heard of him on Narada (Narda) Michael Walden's "Should Have Loved You" album (disco-circa 80 or 81). He was doing this (what I call a double octave-someone help me out with the correct term please!) thing which I still have trouble with doing right.
