Talented 5 string metal players?

Sign in to disble this ad
Recently I have got alittle into metal. I play a 5 string and I want to know some good metal bassists that use a 5 string. Do not reccomend four string bassists (Cliff, Harris, Geddy, etc). Any genre of metal is fine. Also do not metion John Myung because he plays a 6 and I do already know some songs can be played on a 5.

Yes, definately Ryan Martinie. He has a few odd techniques that make his sound that much better.

Bump for Steve DiGiorgio. He has some really cool video's on his website (http://www.stevedigiorgio.com/) of him playing Dynamo with Testament. AWESOME player.

Also, Alex Webster from Cannibal Corpse.

Ryan Martinie uses both 4's and 5's, fours tuned CGCF AND BEAD. He used Warwick thumbs.

Robert Trujillo also used 5ers some of the time.

Jason Newstead used Shadowsky and Alembic 5ers almost 70% of the time.

I like Rex Robert Brown from Pantera. Glad no ones mentioned Mr Clicky yet.

Here are some guys off the top of my head that I think are pretty good metal bassists:

Unearth: Jon Maggard
Lamb of God: John Campbell
Dillenger Escape Plan: Liam Wilson
Zero Hour: Troy Tipton

The last guy nobody has heard of unless you're deep into the prog-death metal stuff, but they are an extremely talented band. Troy Tipton is probobly the best "shredder" that I heard in metal for some time now. He does a bunch of tap arpeggios and for the most part the band plays odd-time, exotic scales which really makes what he plays sound amazing.

Steve DiGiorgio and Sean Malone if we are restricted to 5 string players. I'd add Martin Mendz, Taneli Jarva and Steve Harris to the list if we aren't excluding 4 stringers.

I don't think Martin from DT uses a 5, he didn't either time I've seen them. Awesome bassist though.

Steve is still "in" Vintersorg, as much as he is "in" any band except for Sadus. They are all side projects for him essentially. Vintersorg from what I understand is a side project for everyone involved.
