Evil J from Otep, even if you think the band is emo or too dramatic...he's still a good bassist with lots of training and experience. He inspired me to pick up the bass (and why I started with a five string and have never played anything less).

Why does it matter if they play a 5 string? Bottom line is: do they suck, or do they rock?

Did that really need to be said, maybe the original poster wanted to know about some good metal bassists that weren't the typical four-stringers that you hear about.

I can't think of anything else other than maybe the most recent bass player in Kittie, I don't really care much for their music but she still plays it well. I know that I'm forgetting someone, I might update later.

When he was playing bass in DT( he now plays guitar) he played a 5 string. But he strung it EADGb, and that is pretty annying cause it is friggin impossible to play "Lethe" if you have a low B.

Peter Steele of Type O Negative, who IMO is the "Les Claypool" of metal, as his sound is so huge that for all intents and purposes he carries the band like most guitarists usually do.

-1

I wouldn't put him between these guys who are mentioned above. Good music, but his bassplaying is rather basic.

The guy from Negrophagist, 6 stringer.

Peter Steele has the worst distorted tone I've ever heard, and his clean isn't great either, it's mostly high end it seems. But that's one thing I like about Type O, everything it's tonally disgusting, but they make beautiful music out of it. Truely the heavy metal Enya.
