Ive heard alot of forums here talking about being faithful to certain basses, pickups, strings, etc. But I never saw one about picks. I really never paid much attention to the fact that pick brands and guages help create your sound as well.
Was playing a show and for the first 45 minute set I couldnt for the life of me find my picks. Had to use one I found on the stage floor, gibson with some kind of plastic. For the whole set I kept saying to myself how bad I was sounding, maybe the monitors, maybe just acoustics. But then the band after us was a no show and we played a second 45 minute set. During the intermission I found them under my cabinet(hold the dumb jokes please). Then all the sudden bam! my sound was back again.
Was wondering what everyone uses and why?
I use Dunlop Nylons .88
To me they warm my sound a little while lessening the clickety clack sound of picks. Plus they always fit like a glove it seems in my fingers. |

Though I also love Fender tortoise ones, in the .70-1.00 range.

Hard-wearing, and lovely tortoise picture! | They are cute, aren't they? Crank that bad little critter back by the bridge for some nice, tight, Entwistley/Squiery sounds. Yep. |

My only gripe is that they're the same color as the carpet in the practice space so if I drop it (very rarely) it takes a while to find it again.

the perfect pick.

Expensive, but it's lasted me over a year...awesome tone too. Kind of half way between a celluloid and a felt pick. Even came with its own case/pouch and care kit.

If I can't find them, Fender also makes picks out of the same material (Delrin) which I also like the green type. |

I recently bought a pack of the purple ones that are just slightly thicker (I forget what exactly, possibly 1.2?) I like them as well, but I'm not sure if I have a preference for them yet. I insist on using nylon picks because they seem to hold up a little better. I've broken more than a couple Fender extra-heavy picks.
If I'm on stage and I can't find a pick I like, I'll play with my fingers. |
