Please don't tell me i'm the only one who's heard of him and is totally awed by his awesomeness?
And if i am BEHOLD: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7-8RCjQmek
and don't be discouraged by the intro they're just screwing around for 15secs or so.
He's the one with the Aqua TRB6 (not sure on the exact model). The other one (YES TWO BASSISTS!!) is Yoshishiro Naruse still awesome but i just dig Tetsuo.

In Montana they have signs over bars that say,"Before engaging your mouth, make sure your mind is in gear!"

A Groove is a Terrible Thing to Waste!

In addition to the bass guitar craziness, Minoru Mukaiya's doing some great synth bass on this track.

But I can't stand either of their lead tones... Way too thin and trebley. Let's get some real meat like Sheehan's lead tone
I really love the bass in Japanese music, generally! They always seem to care a lot more about it than in a lot of western music...

And while there is a 'sterile' aspect to their playing, they are extremely dedicated and mostly virtuosos! Not much they can't do, technically. They do have quite a lot of fun when they're playing. |

I love to see musicians having fun while playing, and both those guys had a huge grin plastered all over their face while playing! Great to see
While we're on the subject of Japanese bass, here's another guy I really like (and another awesome jam band, haha): Keiji Kawamori http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTKSpjanQQ4
They're not really a live band, so his tone is a bit weird (but still awesome), and the live sound on that DVD is awful anyway (I had to put my download of it* through dozens of preprocessors to make it sound decent :P). Really recomend checking out their albums, and his playing and tone on Black Mages II is nothing short of awesome!
*The two live DVDs they have are a fanclub release only and are impossible to buy. I'd kill a man for a chance to buy them :P

j/k I guess he's ok. Pretty much buried in the mix behind the wall of guitars (and organ) typical of metal/prog rock. |

Yes, he does play with a pick, and on the album he has basically my favourite pick tone ever. Warm, insane low end, tons of growel and loads of pick attack/clack. All of the instruments sounded trashy on that DVD unfortunately :/
Everybody should check it out anyway. It's Uematsu powered. Ueumatsu is a god!

| | | | Hell yes, I love Tetsuo. I also love Mitsuru Sutoh (ex-T-Square). Listen to his band Trix -- they are f**king brilliant. His basslines are so addictive.
