Ah yes. Manring!

Mods, I think this belongs here. Videos aren't necessary.
Maybe this thread will become a good thread to check out if any new fretless players want to know more.

There are so many. Off the top of my head I can think of three amazing fretless players that always inspire me. Two of which are more famous for their techniques on fretted axes...

Gary Willis

Alain Caron

Victor Wooten

Edit
Mark - I just wanted to thank you so much for posting those McBride and Bona videos. Man, what a great experience watching/listening Pat Metheny play in a trio setting with those guys. Their ensemble playing is so awesome, and then the solos...particularly trying to say something after a Metheny solo...just ridiculous.

I have such a man-crush on Richard Bona.

Two guys that were doing back in the '70s...and at it still-

Randy Tico
Mark Egan

In the '70s, I seem to recall that each used a modified P-bass (Jazz Bridge PU added).

Mark Egan's new latest CD sounds good. I was listening to it yesterday, really dig the Cat.

Manring, Steve Bailey, these are two of my favourites. I'd say Jonas Hellborg, but as he has said, he developed his own fretless playing as an aside because he was never down with copying one guys style.

I guess we've got Jaco to thank for Stuart Hamm too since he is admittedly Stu's favourite player! Even though Stu is better known for his fretted playing, he is rather good on a fretless as well!

What effect (if any) is Christian McBride using in the first clip? Chorus? I absolutely love the sound of the fretless in that and wonder if I could at least approximate that. Very beautiful song and playing BTW

Damn! Metheny made a copywrite claim on the Bona vid and they pulled it.
