I like him. I loved Korn's first few albums and Fieldy was a big reason for that. I wish I could have seen them live.

That was a sweet live rendition.

If you dig him that's all that matters. Go to search and type in his name.

The general consensus is that he sucks an he goes out of his way to get an awful sound.
I think his pinky slap thing is interesting and it's something I haven't been able to master myself. I dig korns early work, and to me his 'super scooped' tone works fine for the band's sound. Granted, it won't work in almost any other setting, but still. I don't think he's that bad.

He's playing music for a living and got rich doing it. Can't knock that.

I really respect him for getting his life on track. Takes a lot of courage to admit that you're going to crash and burn unless you change your ways. I know people my age who still think the party hasn't ended.

He's not about to branch off and start a solo bass career, but what he does works for his band.

As far as his technical chops go, check this live video of BBK:

Anyone know what rig he's using these days? He used to play through 4 Mesa Basis M2000s and an array of Mesa cabs.

That version of "got the life" has the best bass recording of him I have heard. Moves some serious air.

I'm not going to criticize someone who has developed a unique style and had great success.

I'm not a fan of the style..I'm not generally a fan of slap though, so my opinion is skewed. I got into bass for that deep "thump" and 95% of Fieldy's lines give me anything but that...still an interesting guy, read his book...some of the music I do like, but not the person i'm going to model my playing after.

Terrible tone, terrible band (save for a handful of songs), but has done more in music than I ever will.

Click-rattle-rattle...

Bass usually sits between the drums and guitars, riding the drums... this guy is between the drums and ??? Can't knock him for making good in the industry, but not a huge fan of his style or tone.

Ampeg site has him with a hoopty full of PR410HLFs but lists him using the 810E.

(Note to self: sell PR410HLF)

When I started bass, I really like his style. You could ear him and not just do "boom boom boom" like too many VH1 music.

Fieldy is decent but his tone leaves a lot to be desired. I always got the feeling he never practiced either as he never seemed to really improve. Supposedly hes starting a new band that claims to be "stoner rock" (in the last Revolver I read) but hes playing guitar. I'd be really curious to hear him with another band.

i dont care about how he slap or hit the notes, thats personal taste. but it seems like he play the same notes as the rythm guitar all the time, he just ad some low end to the bands sound, but nothing special that i can notice in the mix.

I got to. It was one of the worst concerts I've ever seen, and I've seen A LOT! Zombie played with them and absolutely killed it. Korn was just aweful.

Just last year they played in my town. I made no effort to go see them a second time.

Fieldy's style is unique. its a style a lot of ppl do not like, but it is personal and he has gained success with it.

how i wish to find myself in a situation like that lol - a lot of ppl hate my style too lol, so i kinda know how it feels like (minus the "being well known and succesful" part)
