Toby Leaman - Little known bassist who deserves respect (from Dr. Dog)

For those of you who have never heard of Dr. Dog (www.myspace.com/drdog and www.drdogmusic.com), I highly recommend you check them out. They are a Philadelphia-based band who have been emerging nationally the last few years... playing the major night shows, large festival circuits as well as their own tours. Very Beatles influenced and one of my favorite bands today.

Anyway, I saw them live at a free show in Philly last night and their bassist/singer Toby Leaman deserves a shout out. He writes some really tasty McCartney-esque lines. One of my favorite bassists around right now.

That is all

Saw some clips of these guys at npr.org and was floored by how awesome they (and especially the bass player) were, and then I completely forgot about them. Thanks for the reminder.

Great band and great bassist. His playing is always top notch and in perfect harmony with the drums. Tone to die for too.

Not entirely sure if he is using flats or rounds. He gets a pretty flat sounding tone, but it does have a tiny bit of bite to it. He also uses a big foam mute near the bridge.

Hoping to hear more people chime in about Toby and Dr. Dog in general. Very underrated band.
