Todd Pipes - Deep Blue Something

I'm doing a sub gig in a few weeks, and Breakfast at Tiffany's is on the setlist. This got me thinking about Todd Pipes and how I always thought he was an underrated player. Granted, Breakfast... doesn't have a mindblowing bass line, but there were other songs off of Home, like Halo, Red Light, and Josey, that had were tasteful lines to them. I also thought that he did some very unque things with a pick.

Thoughts?

If I recall correctly, all the guys in that band were either in or had just come out of the music school at the University of North Texas in Denton, which has an extremely rigorous and well-regarded jazz program. I saw them play at Trees in Deep Ellum sometime in 1996. They clearly knew what they were doing.
