I just got into the Dave Weckl Band and I must say, he is one of the greatest players I've heard. I'm listening to his live solo "Rythm-A-Ning" from Live (And Very Plugged In) and it's some of the coolest stuff I've listened to. Does he do solo stuff?

I haven't gotten a chance to really explore his work, but what I have heard is pretty awesome. The Dave Weckl Band played for the 25th Anniversary Drummer's Collective and Tom's got a solo in "The Chicken" that's pretty sick.

The "Audio" section on his site has a discography, but it looks like he's only got a couple solo albums. I want to check out the Planet X stuff... seems very Liquid Tension Experiment-ish.

Anyone else have more info?

Huge Tom Kennedy fan. I especially liked his work on the Weckl "Transition" CD.

I have one of his solo discs! It has a wide range of styles. He has incredible speed, groove and articulation and a total command of his instrument. He and Dave do a killer version of Oleo on that one. He doesn't slap much if at all! There is a tune with a slapped bassline on the cd before or after the live disc which I believe is Ric Fierabracci. Tom had a serious illness in which Dave had to secure a sub!

Nice!

WJGreer, I'll check it out!

DWBass, which album is that? I only saw a couple solo discs on his site, want to make sure I get the right one.

Edit: I suppose I could go look for the one that has "Oleo" on it... Duh. lol

Thanks!

Quick question: how do you post pics IN your posts? Anytime I add a pic, it comes up as an attachment.

(sorry if that's a dumb question or is posted somewhere else... I've only been on TB for a couple weeks and haven't figured it out yet )

Find the image url and post in between image tags i.e. [img]image url[/img]. If it comes up as an attachment, you're posting a pic from your own PC. If you want the pic from your PC to show, you have to upload the image to a pic file host site. A url will be them provided to you to post on forums such as this.

My chance for a good deed on Easter! All you Kennedy fans should check out three mid-80's releases by a hero of mine, guitarist Bill Connors [the first two also with Weckl]. TK burned on all of them, including some slap stuff and great melodic soloes.

The music is all techno guitar shred trio stuff, but *good*--with some nice compositions and great sounds. This has a lot to do with Connors's own talent--the first recorded electric guitarist with Chick Corea's Return to Forever, where he had a great screaming Les Paul sound, on thru moody ECM acoustic/ambient stuff [Dave Holland on bass], most recently on release called 'Return', sort of like straight-ahead jazz transposed to modern times [Lincoln Goines on bass!]. Highly recommended.

Last summer I saw him do a cozy little solo seminar at a local music store here in St Louis - his hometown. The man rules! He had a couple of his Foderas with him along with a DB. He played along with some studio tracks of Dave Weckl on drums. It was really amazing. I need to explore more of the guy's music for sure - a world class player in anyones book.

Yeah, he plays bass on one of the tracks on his "Heads Up" CD, with a cool bass break in it.

Tom Kennedy is a monster player! I've seen him several times with Dave Weckl and he's killer. Solid, funky, superb time and he swings his butt off on upright as well!

The crazy part is, DB is his main instrument.
And I heard that he can kill just as well on DB as on electric.

But yeah, that Live Weckel disc with him is nutty!

Kennedy KILLS!!!! Easily one of my favorite bassists. I love his tone and his technique (and his tasteful lines). I've been singing his praises on this board for a while.

By the way, I've exchanged e-mails with him - he is about as nice of a guy as I've personally corresponded with.
