Tommy is a very solid player. Emulating anything he does could only help your playing. Lots of good traditional blues runs and licks. Great feel.

Great blues licks from Tommy. How can a man like him play with regular mortals anymore? After Stevie Ray, playing with others has to be ho hum for him. Thats the toughest act to follow that has ever been IMHO. Has to be something that would make a guy cry everyday for a long time. My heart is with him.

I also dig Tommy Shannon.

But for that Texas feel.
Keith Fergason was the man.

He played with the Fabulous Thunderbirds. Muddy Waters.
and also, SRV.( pre-Double Trouble)

Good stuff.
We cover a number of SRV's(and have for years).
TS can SEEM to be playing a simple line until you listen closely.
House is a Rockin is not just busy on SRV's end.

All-time fave, as is that whole band.

Smokin' player. I hope I run into him sometime in Austin and even 1/1000th of his feel and timing rub off on me. What I liked most/a lot about SRV & DT was their timing. Nobody comes close, IMHO.

he's really fantastic and very underrated IMO. great tones, feel, and parts....i remember years ago, when i was in high school there was a blues bass lesson with a bunch of standard lines in the back of a bass player magazine. the first sentence was: "if you see a CD with 'Tommy Shannon: bass' buy it!!". that's really good advice....

Tommy Is The Man!

Just caught a show in Atlantic City with TS during a Jimi Hendrix Tribute Show with Kenny Wayne Shepard, Buddy Guy, Mitch Mitchell, and Billy Cox. TS was rock solid in his playing, and did everything a bass player is suppose to do. My hat is off to Tommy.....Thanks for the good work.

Tommy Shannon

Tommy put "deep" in the heart of Texas. Amazing feel.
There is an interview with him talking about his career from Johnny winter through SRV to Storyville.

Check it out.

Huge is the first thought i have when i hear his name in blues and blues bass playing..man what a solid tasty player he is. I have been studying his lines and feel also for the group i am in now and he isnt following normal blues lines offen he really works the board and gets groovy and holds the bottom well. Check out his website and read his bio its a great read starting from his early days before Stevie to Jonny and into his addiction loss of years of playing and geting second chances. Tommy has beaten addiction last i read for quite a few years and continues to rock. That concert stated above must have been awsome...does it tour?

Erin Jaimes gave me a study assignment, written on a napkin, that she says Tommy Shannon gave to her. He told her to learn two songs off the Donny Hathaway Live album, with Willie Weeks. "The Ghetto" and "Everything Is Everything". He told her that if you can play those songs, you can play anything.

Yeah, Keith was amazing. I had the pleasure of meeting Danny T., who learned from Keith. He let me play one of the basses that was passed on to him from Keith. Didn't do much, just sat on the bar stool and checked it out, but, still...WOW!!!

Talking bassbully (concert tour with TS)

Sorry BB, but If I'm correct there were only 6 scheduled tour dates for 2007, and Atlantic City was the last. However they are having a different Jimi Hendrix Tribute Show in NEW YORK, NY on 11-27-2007 marking his 64th birthday. I know the Johnny Winter Band will be there and Leon Hendrix (Jimi's Brother) and his Band. Go to Leon Hendrix website or my space website for further.

I guess my only comment on Tommy is that he's a very nice guy. The few times I've met him he's always had nice things to say about my band.

Big +1 on "Everything is everything". That solo is like a graduate course in solo bass guitar.

The stuff he did with Storyville is worth mentioning.
That first disc of their's is a lesson of groove from start to finish.
