I mean the bass line in dont speak and im just a girl are just really great.
They really stands out of the mix, and so melodic.

Anybody else who thinks that?
Havent found any thread about him and on youtube.com for example there aint a single video with him.

I mean, the guy actually played with: Springsteen, Costello, dave grohl and steve van zandt under a allstar concert named: "superstar garage band"

so i mean to be picked out to play with all thouse great guitarist and musician must be a sign of something atleast.

I've always found him to be quiet overrated, at least by his fans, but then thats an inevitability. At least, I've never found him to be very good at all, but then I find No Doubt so irritating I doubt I'll ever change my mind about him.

I think he's one of those cats that has chops for days, but only uses them when called for. He's also got one "Hella Groove".

...I apoligize for no puns.

I really like his playing on the older records. Basically from the album with Don't Speak and before. After that, I can't even listen to a song long enough hear the bass : ).

Great bassplayer, always had a nice groove going, plus he dated Gwen Stefani, lucky bastard.

He's pretty damn good, in my opinion, I tried to play the bass line for "Don't Speak" with all its neat little touches, fills and runs when I was just starting out and didn't get anywhere, it was just too hard for my sorry beginner arse, especially all the runs in the lowest register, his skills left me devastated.

I haven't really been paying attention to their albums after "Tragic Kingdom", though, they were starting to become a bit too pop-ish for my tastes. I think he's the main reason why I've been wanting a Yamaha BB for a while now, though.

well dont speak was so extremly hard to understand the groove.
Until i used guitar pro and heard it, i found out that ive been playing a whole different kind of groove than what its mean to be.
Its a really cool bass line, 2 bad its hard to hear it.
Like with every other supermixed **** on mtv!

Very good musician, just needs a better band (I NEVER liked No Doubt, not likely to become a fan either, between the cheesy throwaway tunes and Gwen Stefani's obnoxious Carol Channing-like screeching).

Tony is definitely an awesome bass player. We had to cover a No Doubt tune and the bass parts were fun to play and really well written!

When No Doubt hit in about '94 I had to learn his parts for cover gigs I do, he can play! I get hip to a lot of cats I might not otherwise "really" hear by learning their parts for gigs.

Yea hes one of my fav bassists. I like all ther albums, one of those bands tht produces albums different from the next while retaining ther essence. His bass playing has always been tasteful, undestands wht da song needs.

Yeah, he's lucky they're not seeing each other anymore. I would NOT want to be associated with "Holla Back Girl"...

Good bassist, I have always thought that he was a little sloppy. Well there are a few songs that the bass work sounds really sloppy on, those just happen to be the songs that I heard of his first when I really started listening to bass, so that is what my opinion of him is based on.

I think he's a great bass player. He has some great lines on their lesser known songs like Sunday Morning and their cover of Talk Talk's Its My Life.

Funny story,I was playing at a casino just over the Indiana/Illinois border one night about 7-8 years ago and when we went on break and well dressed East Indian gentleman approached the band. He asked us "hey have you guy's ever heard of the band No doubt?" well because of the fact i was playing with a bunch of older jazz/R&B guy's only I and the singer had heard of them but (lucky for me ) I said "yeah I like them" then He Say's "my nephew is the bass player" I said "cool he's a good player" He said "would you like to meet him?" I said "hunh?" turns out tony kanal was there having dinner with his family who lived in the area. His uncle went over and got him,and introduced him to the band (who mostly had no idea who he was) He was very cool and laid back,it was obvious to me that his uncle must tell people who he was all the time and that it kind of annoyed him but but we talked a little shop and told each other to keep up the good work. Later the bandleader asked me "who was that?" I told him he's the bass player for No Doubt He look at me and Say's "what is that a rap group or something?" LOL

+1! I was going to mention the ska days, his groove was incredible. I have an old bootleg live tape from the early days (way before Tragic Kingdom) and he is just smokin'!! I was sorry that they dropped almost all of the ska stuff later.
