Tony Levin's bass on Roches albums?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm new here, but have been wondering for years. What bass did Tony Levin use on the Roches albums, specifically on:

The Roches - "Quitting Time"
Keep On Doing - "Keep On Doing What You Do/Jerks on the Loose"

Some of the most gorgeous bass playing I've ever heard, and it's been bugging me for years I don't know what instrument he played. Any insight would be appreciated!

I never heard the roches. But if it's old it's probably a Pbass. If it's in the mid 80 and newer probably a music man.

You may be right. I know he used a Music Man, but also a Chapman Stick. I just can't tell which one it is on those two particular albums. Oh, the Roches are a folk group of three sisters; Robert Fripp was their producer on those two particular albums.

Tony Levin: Chapman stick or Music Man?

I think I've narrowed it down to two instruments he may have used on those albums. Any others have any thoughts or knowledge on this?

The liner notes (or a web version of them) of the "The Roches" album only lists Tony as playing bass on that album. It's possible he used his "Funk Fingers" on the Music Man and that is quite percussive, almost sounds like a Stick sound. I haven't heard the track or the album, is it still a thick bass-like sound, but has lots of percussive aspects to it?

Cheers,
