If you click the "more" link on the right, the poster of the video writes: "Kick ass classic song played by my idol and his his band! Check out the cool Tom Kennedy bass solo!" No mystery there.

All amazingly technical players but this did nothing for me. Weckl can't funk if his life depended on it. Bass player had insane chops and he'd played really fast but I felt nothing from his solo.

I just can't listen to "chops" super-groups anymore.

Great take on a Jaco tune, and the bass tone was awesome!

I just don't know about Dave Weckl...

Exactly how I feel. You can't fault the playing, technically, but at times it's just a blur. I'm sure some people, especially musicians, can enjoy that sort of thing, but I didn't find it very appealing to the ears, or the way I perceive 'funk'. Plus I've never liked that sort of tone, which is one of the reasons I never completely 'got' Jaco.

One of my all time favorite jazz tunes, acutally the first jazz song I learned I think. Thanks for posting this. I agree, the bass solo did lack some feeling, but I'd rather take his playing over mine any day (his tone too).

That's the edited video.
The real video has a build up to the wankfest on bass. Quite musical, actually.

ehh... that was kind of funky, definitely more of that "music for musicians". not nearly funky enough to compete with this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tb8L8lH030A. the clothes alone put weckl's sense of funk to shame. they do kind of rush through the song though, but cocaine will do it to you.
