Too young for Claypool

Sign in to disble this ad
The legendary Les Claypool is coming to town and it happens that only 21+ can go. This gig is in a place known for having all ages concerts. Why must the one cool bass-related thing to come to this tiny town be the time I am not old enough? I wonder if he is coming as Primus, the paper only said Les Claypool with O'Death. Anyone else experience having been too young to go to a concert they wish they could go to?

It's Les, Mike D, Sam Bass, Paulo Baldi.

Les said Primus 2010

Yeah, a awesome local band just started playing again after a hiatus and all of their shows are 21+. Shame cause I can go buy cigarettes and vote but I can't see a band. Gotta love it...

I never encountered this kind of limitations in the countries i lived in (Poland and France). I don't get it at all, it's just silly.

Yeah, USA has pretty weird system with the age limits. IMO driving a car involves a lot more responsibility than drinking booze but still you can get driving license at 16 but you can't drink booze until you're 21.

It's also funny that all kinds of emo bands play often K18 gigs even though 97% of their fans are under 18

Yeah, it's silly. You can fight and get limbs blown off for your country at 18, but you're not allowed to have a beer when you get back from the front until you're 21.

I've always thought 21+ shows are stupid. Limiting the draw by probably half in a lot of cases, especially with metal bands.

It is lame. I know that in my area, all the local 'venues' though are Bars first and foremost. It doesn't matter if a huge band plays there, it's still a bar with songs being played in it. As such, they have to follow the rules and laws that pertain to a bar.

Even in biger, more music-centric venues pull that sometimes all ages, sometimes 18+ and other times 21+ crap all the time. It just goes to show where the priorities lie in 'Murica.

Even though i don't drink, i can confidently say that most, if not all, other musician friends had to decide between playing a show and drinking... they'd play that show.

That's a huge bummer. I turn 21 on monday and his show here in Omaha is on the 2nd... but It's an 18+ show, so double check with the venue to make sure it's not a misunderstanding. I'm guessing it's not claypool's decision for it to be 21+

Probably a good guess. Not sure why any touring musician would want to limit their audience.

Me and three friends took a four hour drive up to Albaquerque, NM to watch this band called Don Caballero.

We get there only to find out that it's a 21+ show and two of my friends can't get in.
They were so so sad. None of us even thought to check on this minor detail.

At the end of the show they ended up meeting the band as they were loading their stuff.
The band felt really bad for them and ended up hooking them up with free shirts and CD's.

Don't feel bad, I missed Primus 3 times and Les Claypool twice before I finally saw him in 06 and it was worth all the wait.

Dude, you're in Omaha! I'm in Lincoln! Small world. You going to the Claypool show? I haven't decided yet. I love Claypool's playing, but not a huge fan of Primus (is that possible...). Primus is ok, but definitely not in my top 10.

I'm going to see him on Wednesday in Fargo. We have a VIP booth reserved, should be pretty cool.

That really sucks, man. Sorry to hear it.
Drinking should never take precedence over the music. Never.

Not to rub any salt in your wound, but I'm looking forward to the 18th.

Usually has to do with either the venue, promoter, or manager.

It is a fact that drunk driving accidents went way up during the time that 18+ were allowed to drink. They were given responsibility, too many demonstrated they couldn't handle it, and that's what happens.

Don't you rather mean that drunk driving accidents went down when they became prohibited from drinking? As it wasn't 21 everywhere when my dad was my age.

Claypool isn't even coming to my neck of the woods this time around, and I'm well old enough to see him One day I WILL see him in concert.

I forget the exact year that 18+ were allowed to drink, but I think it was 72 or 73. By the end of the decade, plans were in place to gradually raise the drinking age back to 21+. I just barely made the cut. But no, it was always 21+ except for the 70's and a couple years in the 80's.
