However I just saw Tool in San Francisco for my 6th time and it was UNBELIEVABLE . I would definately say my vote goes to JUSTIN ONLY BECAUSE LATERALUS is my Favorite Album. His WAL tone in that album is unrivaled, Not to mention When i saw them perform lateralus Danny Carrey had a drum solo with the drummer from TransAm and Tim Alexander (drummer from Primus). This was AMAZING To say the least.
Not Including TOOL performing a Dead Kennedy's cover of "holiday in cambodia" with special guest JELLO BIAFRA and Maynard backing VOCALS.
Best concert of MY life!
Justin Rules!

Does anyone really know what Paul is doing and did he ever actually make music more "experimental" than tool?
Not sure on this but i hardly doubt it.
Can anyone provide some recent info on Paul?

*EDIT* The Feersum Ennjin web site seems to indicate that Paul has left that project as well: http://www.feersumennjin.net/

I've always preferred the pounding riffs of Undertow to the newer stuff (which I also love), so that may explain my fondness for Paul. |

Paul was an IMMENSE influence on me while growing up though.
Two amazing musicians.

I was on a short list for bass player/singer for Feersum Ennjin. Paul is a really, really sweet guy and very funny.
His music post-TOOL is easily WAY more expirimental than TOOL. At least, IMO.
He did Replicants with Ken Andrews and Greg Edwards (Failure) and Chris Pitman. It's cover songs but done in a really new-wave/psychadelic way.
Then Lusk, which I suggest you just buy and listen to over and over and over again. It has a huge cast of people but the core was Paul and Chris... and Brad Laner and Greg. Kellii Scott, Daney Carey, Gilden Tunador, Blair (from TOOL's website), Patty Hood and Korel Tunador also guest. This album is more or less a really lush psychedelic pop album. It's in my Top 5 and is one of the best records I've ever heard.
Then, recently, he's been (and still as, so far as I know) doing Feersum Ennjin. When we talked he was looking for bass players and lead singers. I called him back, never heard from him. Talked to my friend who is a director who said one of his assistants directed the music video for Feersum Ennjin. So as far as I know, they have a whole band line-up; Paul doing guitar and maybe singing, Jon Mauherhan on drums and who knows for bass and lead vox. But also, Paul is soon to be a dad again so I think that's his primary concern.
That said, Paul is my fav. mostly becuase I think he is a little more dynamic. But I love Justin too!! |

I've been needing to pick up Lusk for the better half of forever now, still haven't. I'm an idiot.

You'll notice jello doing some kind of interpretive dance in front of Maynard while the rest of the band does there thing.

Yeah, they did real good, and it got them to play in a key other than D.

I have wondered if they were aware of the other keys, sometimes. It's still amazing that they manage to make so much music with such a small palette of tonal variations.
I mean, sometimes I hear a band play a whole album in the same or a pair of related keys, but Tool has made a career out of dropped-D. |

I think Pauls playing was more generic at types where as Justin has alot more interesting ideas going on and fits the bands present sound - additionally I like his use of effects, I dont think Paul used any where near as many...if at all...but feel free to correct me on that!
