A lot of the bass lines he does are pretty complicated and a lot more advanced than most rock out there which is pretty dull.

For me it's gotten to the point where it's "yeah, cool songs, nice slapping, whatever" I could be wrong, but I think the poster might be asking for people who haven't quite left there mark yet. And also, just my opinion, but players who may be still relevent to the "main stream"
In my opinion, three examples would be.
