Scott Ambush

Mike Skill

I'll add a fourth. Charlie Barret. His bass on "Red Skies At Night" has such a fat yet raw sound to it.

Dont have any 'top' tones per se, but four popped out for me over the years, for different reasons:

Mark Adams (with Slave etc), Randy Jackson (eighties), Marcus and Pino

..plus any good example of ultimate fretless 'mwaaahr'

Jaco Pastorius
Marcus Miller
Tony Levin

The first two are guys that you immediately know who is playing on a track at first listen. Levin has that great tone that sits in a mix and if you're not really looking for it, you can't pull it out. But it's groovin' so hard, it doesn't matter. He's working with the band.
