Jeffrey Hammond - Jethro Tull's second bassist (you can hear him on album Aqualung)

Paul McCartney - The Beatles
Geezer Butler - Black Sabbath
It's not my "best" list although it could easily be, but rather my "most influencial" list |

5. Geezer Butler again
JPJ didn't make my list. He's a great player...but only when you can hear him.

Not a lot of groove in his blood. I'm a big DT fan but JM doesn't really belong in the top 5 to me.
Geddy on the other hand.... definitely does. But even more than Geddy's bass playing, i'm more impressed with his solid ability to sing and play at the same time. In the 70's, he was one of the greatest rock singers ever. He's a pretty good keyboardist as well. And he has a great sense of melody and song arrangement.
All of that put together, and he is easily #1 to me. I don't know any other rock bassist as multi-talented as he is. There is others that come close and can do as many different things as he does, but are not as good at everything that Geddy is. |
