+ 1 on Mike Watt... also, no one ever mentions Gerald Casale of DEVO fame... not flashy, or even "great" by most standards... but he played some solid lines that defined a unique/awesome band.

What Clayton did and does fits the band perfectly and the band would not be the same without him…hence “important” in the pure sense of the word. I don’t think The Edge is all that flash either, but again, what he does makes the band what it is…

I'm a huge fan of Bernard Edwards'. Most of his cool bass work was done in the late 70's.
