No this isn't another one of those threads that pops up every month..
If you didn't know, Metallica played with the Stones recently (Nov 13 + 15 i think).. And Metallica.com posted 2 videos from the event. "One" and "For Whom The Bell Tolls"
Rob Trujillo does pretty damn good in both. And at the end of For Whom The Bell Tolls theres a short segment of when they played ORION live. I wish they had the whole thing!!!, anyway here it is http://www.metallica.com/index.asp?item=13501  |

Aside from the bass intro on For Whome the Bell Tolls and Kirk Hammets guitar solo...this band really has no redeeming value to me any more.
The music not only feels drained of life, but their "enemy" or counterpart, Megadeth, is making music now and still playing with an energy that Metallica hasn't matched.
The band did, essentially, die when Cliff died. (I'm not a huge cliff fan, but let's be honest. Load? Reload? St. Anger?)
Although Trujillo can hopefully breath some life into the band (his intro is good!) I doubt it for the new album.
Oh...and any idea what distortion he's using for that intro?

EDIT: after watching the video i think that james dosent look like as much of a frontman anymore. (i think its the hair)

For that matter, neither is Bob Rock, but I thought his playing was excellent on St. Anger. Probably the best thing about it. |

James seems to be heading towards a career in working men's clubs. The next thing you expect him to say is " heads up for the raffle.
The only ones that seem to have any energy are Rob and Lars.
it's almost a "by the numbers" performance. i felt quite embarassed watching it - as someone said earlier there are bands out there who are older and still giving it the energy they always have and more.
Come On Metallica!!!
having said all of this, I'll still go out and buy the album, just to hear what Rob is producing!

It was pretty pathetic overall, it was basically 3 pages of James talking about how wonderful Metallica was in all respects, and how great Bob Rock is.
You see James and Lars litterally WORSHIP this guy. If he told them to do an Emo record they'd think it was the greatest thing they've ever done.
He keeps them rich and they make him rich in the process, so I guess its a happy relationship. Bob Rock's career has been made convincing marginally talented (and sometimes totally talentless) metal artists that they were the second coming of Black Sabbath and making whatever they turn out sound good enough for radio play, then convicing them they never could have done it without them. He definately hit the motherload with metallica though.
I would not be surprised at all if they had Rock play on the next album as well. If he says to do it they will.
Metallica = Bob Rock's beeotch.

Yeah I couldn't even finish it. I loved them when I saw them in April '04, but I didn't like grace notes in the Bellz intro...and did jaymz kind of remind anyone of Mr. Rogerz?

I consider Metallica a metal gateway drug... once you realize there is better stuff, you don't really go back to metallica, except for occasional "remeber the good ol' days" business.
