Truth: Wood gives wood

I freaking love Ron Wood's bass on Jeff Beck's Truth. I came to the album late, admittedly (thanks dad's record stash!), but had heard OF it. I put that on my record player and got my ya-ya's out FOR SURE. I said to myself: "That's not Jeff Beck singing." Flipped the album cover over, and ****! That's Rod Steward! And Ron Wood on bass?!? WHAT is this thing?

Its goshdang fantastic, that's what it is.

I thought hrmm...a guitarist on bass for TRUTH? Will this be plek-tedious?

I think his work is perfect on this album, and my ears don't hear a guitarist. I hear a bassist blues bedrocking these tunes, and I love it.

Just don't have anyone to talk about it...folks my age these days thing Jeff Beck is some new wave jazz guy with some hot thing on bass (too much live at ronnie scott's on their dvr?).

I want to go on too, and talk about the incredible music, how Rod molted during the American tour, the drumming gloriousness, Jeff's wah-splosions, Ron's rolling riots...

But I'll stop here. And invite you all to put this record on AGAIN. And while its hard not to hear Rod killing it, Jeff flamethrowing, and Micky Waller shaking kit like a shiva...walk with Ron out in the morning dew.

Keith Richards was also a good bass player back in the day. He played on several Rolling Stones tracks. Also David Gilmour played bass on several Pink Floyd tracks.

McCartney started on guitar.

I went to Bass pro shop and to my surprise they didn't have a single bass guitar.

I just found out about gilmour while researching ovation magnum bases yesterday! I'm in no way assuming guitarists (let alone these masters mentioned) can't thump...I just don't have much music with known stringers on rails and was happy to be floored.

Truth and Beckola are absolute classics and don't think for a second the boys in Zeppelin weren't checking that out as they were forming. That version of Shapes Of Thing is ground zero for the 70s guitar hero phenomenon.

And Ronnie is a fabulous bass player with a wonderful dirty sound.

ron wood is underated...but the stones - rod stewart & beck knew better.
you could do a lot worse than when they ask you for your credentials you say "Ron Wood"

+1, I've always thought of the first Beck group as the template for Led Zeppelin. Both JPJ and Page worked on Truth and it came out a year before the first led Zeppelin album.

that's the thing, a lot of those guys these guys are just great musicians and not just guitar or bass players. Makes all the difference.

And if you haven't already, check out the Faces.

+1 to this. Just listened to this album last night. Fantastic bass work. Some of it sounds like a bass VI
