trying to emulate Flea, at least equipment-wise

hello, great forums here. I'm pretty new to playing bass. got some really good advice on amplifiers in the amp forum.

Anyhow, my two biggest inspirations are Flea and Les Claypool. i am working on the pop/slap technique and really lvoe Flea's funky style. now obviously i'm not goign to be as good as flea within the next 50 years, but does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get a similar sound. someone told me he uses gk amps and a p-bass or music man bass.

I currently have a cheap ibanez with rock and jazz pickups and a fender rumble 60w solid state combo. If i were to get a setup that would emulte that sound (like on blood sugar sex magic) what type of equipment should I be usign? Any particular bass, amp, pickups, etc. I should look into? Thanks in advance.

Dont "fret" young player, it wont take you anywhere near 50 years to master his technique. Dont even think about the rig, just get the style and feel. Check out the Funk 101 thread in Recordings for some CLASSIC slap bass lines, what Flea learned from.
