Why does he get so little attention for how talented he is? Everything ive heard from aaf shows excellent musicianship but they dont have barely any main stream publicity.

Tye is great!

But when your band's big musical contribution is a MJ cover... you better have a backup plan

Tye is a MONSTER bassist! AAF's Truant is one of my fav discs to get me out of a rut. Very creative and musical ideas. He is a very good performer as well. Under-appreciated for sure!

This.

Why do you think nobody pays attention to a lot of talented bassists (Los Lonely Boys and Robert Randolph & the Family Band come to mind)? The bands aren't popular. Popularity =/= Talent.

Love his playing. That debut cd is one of the best, well written rock albums of that time IMO. Not a bad song on there.

I'm not a huge AAF fan at ALL. But Tye is THEE man.

In regards to why they aren't popular; didn't the singer (or other member) break their neck in an accident right after "smooth criminal" was getting its buzz? I'm sure that hindered any sort of wave riding on the popularity of that song.... which is a bummer.

In any case, AAF kinda reminded me of a nu-metal version of Glassjaw...

I liked their first album. I could be wrong but didn't Tye leave the band for a while, to finish / go to college or something like that? Nice to see a rocker with the sense to think beyond their music career!

He had a Fender signature bass that was made a while back. Killer looking six string, I wonder if anyone has it?

Bam, bam, exactamundo. all three have amazing bassists, but... They have a small, devoted fan base, much like AAF.

he also endorsed a builder named Parr(or somethign like that....bass player told me so!) for his main six string which i think influenced the fender one. decent band, pretty fun player.

He actually co-built the first bass with Dave Parr (Movies Video). Then got sponsered by Fender, and had the Fender Custom shop make a version of his design. This is what he told me when I met him backstage. At one time, there was going to be a signature model.

I'm a huge AAF fan. Tye did leave the band for a while to go to school, he recorded the bass parts for their last album before taking off. He has since rejoined the band, and I can't wait for a new album.

He has been a big influence on my playing style.

Tye has a lot of basses, including one being built by Shawn May of Plymouth Michigan. http://www.myspace.com/maycustombasses

Absolutely amazing bassist. Although his on stage antics make me cringe, he is one of my main influences. The band as well is fantastic. Just listen to Denigrate or Universe. Amazing basslines and band.
