U2 3D: Adam Clayton's basses

Went to see this at the IMAX over the weekend. It was a really good show. It was filmed in Argentina, and crowd was fantastic. It was a real trip in 3D, though. I felt like I was onstage during some parts.

But one thing that hit me: Adam did not use any P-basses. He used four different Jazzes as far as I could tell. The first was what looked like a natural finish Fender with a blocked maple fretboard. It sounded really good. The next was a heavily reliced green Fender with a maple board. It sounded horrible. I could hear buzzing and the strings clanked badly. (Hello, bass tech? ) Next was a green Lakland with a maple FB. Sounded excellent -- really good tone balance on that one. Finally was a 3-tone burst Fender with a rosewood FB. By far my favorite. Very warm sounding with nice punchy lows.

Has anyone else seen this?

haven't seen it, but i recognize one of them from the desription...it's a usa lakland with a natural ash darryl jones body, maple neck and black blocked board...so, he wasn't using the crazy gold metal flaked one? that woulda been cool, but he's just now getting it, from what i understand...or has gotten it just recently within the last couple of months

Saw it last night - awesome concert film!
On the green Fender you could actually see the texture from the wear - that's good 3-D.
I think I also spotted the "crazy gold metal flaked" Lakland (the stage lighting didn't really make the gold noticeable) and a pink-salmon colored one too. Like you said - all Jazzes.
By seeing it in 3-D I gained a new appreciation for Adam's technique, especially right-hand. He's really become more nuanced than the earlier days.
I wasn't crazy about his tone on a couple of songs but I figure it was his tone of choice and not a fault of the bass tech. His tone was awesome the rest of the show, as it should be with that kind of budget .

I saw it a couple of weeks ago and i thought that his tone was great all the way through.I really like the tingy sort or sound during Vertigo.
