I was on the subject of Pino today, and a thought struck my mind. A very underrated bassist, Chris Wood. This cat can jam man! His fills are very Pino- like. I dont know if this has been posted, but he is truelly an amazing player.

Chris wood is definitely the man, I've seen him a ton of times, and I think my vintage gear G.A.S. can at least be partially attributed to his influence

Today?! Thats some of the mst groovin minutes I have spent my entire 16 years of life. His tone with his super old flats on that Hofner is just pure bass pr0n.

I love Chris Wood and MMW (or MSMW). He is a huge influence on me for simple, grove based playing as well as great crunchy tone.

Chris is an awesome bassist; I ran into him at the airport in Charlotte, NC back in June I really wish I would have asked for an autograph!

i saw MMW over the summer at prospect park bandshell. he plays a beautiful vintage p bass and a DB with an amazing wood top. hes definatly not underrated, but i think that because thats kind of "in the scene music". most people arent aware of the really talented non-mainstream artists today

This live version of "Chank" is much, much better than what's on the cd/recording, A Go Go...as it should be.

Personally, the organ groove stuff gets to me after about 3 tunes...don't forget about MMW's acoustic Jazz-oriented stuff (like Notes From The Underground).

The B-3 player, John Medeski, gets around. Another favourite of mine is Lunar Crush, his co-lead album with David Fiuczynski (of the Screaming Headless Torsos).
I just ordered a album by the Jazz Composers Alliance Orchestra...& Medeski is on that, too.

MMW are very cool, versatile & inside/outside players.

I never thought he's underrated. He's world famous and generally respected and admired as far as I know.

But in general, how many people do you hear say "Hey, that Chris Wood sure is good! Im really influenced by him!" Not too many. No disrespect to Flea or Geddy, etc. but guys like this sure can groove for all the respect they get all around.

Just my $0.02, remember!

Oh, my bad James. I was meaning on the electric lady wonderland side of things. My bad.

Not too many electric bassists idolize him like he deserves.

should I mention that most the players I referred to are mostly electric players that dabble in URB... myself included

But yes, Chris is deserving of as much attention as he can get. He's a hell of a player.
