Unsung Bass Heroes

Sign in to disble this ad
Two bassists that I love that never get any recognition are Skid of "Love/Hate" and Dennis Dunaway from the original "Alice Cooper" Band.
Who are your favorite unsung bass heroes?

Funny - as soon as I opened this post "Love Hate Love" by Alice in Chains was on my Media Player - and I was about to post Mike Starr and Mike Inez of Alice in Chains...just crazy!

whoever said jpj is on crack...he might not be as raved about as jimmy page or bonzo or plant, but he is one of the most discussed bassists in this forum.

and this thread has come up WAY too many times.

Mike Rutherford.

Old Genesis records from the early-mid 70s have some KILLER bass playing.

Also Dan Roberts from Crash Test Dummies. Remarkably good bass throughout God Shuffled His Feet.

Jack Casady - he's one of Anthony Jackson's heroes and pioneered countless techniques used by rock bassists
Randy Jackson - American Idol aside, the man can play
Jon Camp - took Squire's sound and propelled Renaissance w/Annie Haslam
Andy Fraser - the backbone of Free; his melodic choices in phrasing made Free sound huge behind Paul Kossoff's solos
Carl Radle - Played on some of the best 70's work of Clapton & Harrison including "Layla" and "All Things Must Pass"
Nick Lowe - Rockpile was one of the tightest post new wave bands because of Lowe & Terry Williams' ESP.

I have been trying to cover a couple of Elvis Costello's songs and really started to listen to Bruce Thomas. Man he's pretty good.
