And Tom did play a T bird...I saw them live 2x back in that era and he had a T bird both times...after that it was always a 12 string.....

Cheap Trick has influenced a lot of bands which followed in the power pop genre. Petersson came up with the idea of the 12-string bass and has a unique bass tone, IMO. That means something to a few people I suppose....

He used an 8-string Alembic quite a lot at that time (circa '78-'79) and also had a strange looking 4-string with a P-pickup and a neck-through construction. At the Reading gig in 1979 (as seen on youtube) he used a Thunderbird, Hamer 12 (the first acoustic look model), a some custom 8-string with Thunderbird pickups (see below) and a Fender Bass V.
