I think it was mentioned because many are under the impression that this is a 'new' thing invented by Victor Wooten, or some such. That's all.
Any value judgement is probably best reserved for the actual application, as opposed to the technique, per se.
Also, the 'Greek' guest list in Berkely is full; talkbass member 'JADY' is getting a couple tix for that one!

there are plenty of vid clips of Vail's solos on youtube that don't have any sax! :-)

Very true! Doug Rauch used that technique in a most beautiful human and heart felt way, for example.

So vail_bass isn't Vail Johnson? Or Vail just has his manager post here? Maybe it's the artist otherwise known as "Vail".

That's exactly why I posted that. I honestly thought it was a new thing that Regi Wooten created and passed to Vic. I need to study more bass history and less Strategy Practices for Rainbow Six PS2.

BTW, Vail, I FINALLY just got my first Kubicki - the bass I plan to be buried with. This thing is so amazing, I can't put it down! Every time I do, I'm holding it again minutes later!

Monk Montgomery, Wes Montgomery's brother. He played the hell out of one of the very earliest Fender P-Basses with Lionel Hampton.

He played with his thumb. Not slap style, but he used all kinds of double, triple and what ever thumb strokes he needed to get the music across.

Very melodic player. He put out one LP "Reality" in the '70's that I know of. I lost my copy. Monk played in Las Vegas for a long time. He must be the great grandpa of modern electric bass playing in Pop' n Jazz music.

Arsenio hand selected the musicians? I always felt the band was on the "lame" side... now I know why.

Stop the presses

wait, I'm confused: Are we talking about DAVID Carter, the drummer for Aresenio and later Kenny G, or Carter BEAUFORD, the drummer for Dave Matthews? Aiee Ya! Head so ouchee!

Looks like he is either bothered by or likes the feeling of his hair rubbing against his neck/shoulders. Glad I don't have that problem (I'm bald! ) as it looks like some sort of nervous twitch.
