Thoughts:

-Vail loves playing bass
-you don't need a Sadowsky or Fodera to sound good
-you can lay down a tasty solo without 7 strings
-Vail still brings much of the same phrasing from Kenny G Live

Thanx for sharing, Dr C .

listen, I play fodera basses, but I 'm going to offer a squier jazz bass to my nephew, I love these basses.

So of course there's no need to own a fodera to sound good.
but it helps and the fact of owning one is just a pleasure by itself.

I'm so Vail's bitch...

Fodera? Sadowsky? I think Kubicki's (like Vail's) kick 'em all to the curb!

I know this is hyperbole. Frankly, I cannot remember a single solo on a Fodera. That is not a slam on Fodera's or their owners, it's just that the truly seminal and memorable solos I know of were played mainly on Fenders with a few being done on Alembics or Stingrays among others.

I take it back. Although he is not much of an influence on me, Victor Wooten's stuff has clearly turned much of the bass world on its ear.

Really diggin' his tone on that Kubicki.

Also really dug the Police quote at one point in his solo - bassline from When The World Is Running Down.....

Every so often you come across a guy that just seems to have it together, knows what makes 'em happy and are genuinely good people. Vail strikes me as one of those. Badass player, obviously.

Correction: Victor Wooten definitely has played solos on a Fodera that I remember!

lol I've heard of basses that play themselves, but this is ridiculous!

we so need a groucho emoticon

lol is it really up to the instrument to make a memorable solo?

That's not what I said, but a Groucho emoticon would be cool.

lol i understood what you were saying--all the memorable bass solos were done on a fender or stingray, but the wording was just right for a groucho response

Aahh... the lovely tone of a Kubicki Ex Factor. One of my absolute favorites, definitely. Thanks for sharing!
