Vic and Anthony Jackson w/Chick Corea NYC

Sign in to disble this ad
I was just on the Blue Note NYC website and they are listing The Electrik Band with Victor Wooten on bass 11/7 thru 11/12 (two shows each night).

Also listed is Chick's Leprechan Band with Anthony Jackson on bass, Steve Gadd on Drums, Ravi Coltrane on sax and Frank Gambale on Guitar. 11/14 thru 11/19.

I've always been a big fan of the Electrik Band and I've never seen Vic in person. Also a big fan of Steve Gadd and Anthony Jackson, wow! I may try and make it up to one or both of these.

yea, I think if I can only do one, it's gonna be the quintet with AJ and SG.

+1, but Victor Wooten is great too. I've never seen him except for clinics and solo gigs. It would be nice to see him in an ensemble where he is not the focus.

The AJ gig sounds good, but with the Victor Wooten gig just sounds phenomenal.

F***! There are times like this when I wish I had the spare cash and time just to jump on a plane and get to these gigs - I'd love to see the Elektric band with both of these guys - AJ will be incedible but I think Vic would be just as enjoyable - at least the Flecktones are playing a UK show in January next year - and Matt Garrison, Patitucci, Dave Holland and Richard Bona are all over for the London Jaszz Festival in November - so it's not all bad!

Peace

M

PS - Ravi Coltrane is outstanding - he really has developed his own voice on sax and sounds beautiful on soprano - I've seen him live and he's amazing.

Believe me, he's got the jazz chops to handle the gig, as well as bringing his own funky flavour to the proceedings.

I heard Vic play Donna Lee at last years bass camp and he played it absolutely wonderfully... he doesn't get get enough cred for his jazz playing but then again he doesn't play much standard jazz. Anyway, he played some beautiful walking lines and he was swingin' like a mofo

If you pay us a visit I'll gladly show you round - we have our share of great UK players as well - Laurence Cottle is playing with Bill Bruford next week in a tiny club - and Branford Marsalis is through on MOnday as well - should be a good week for music...hope you're well there dude, how's the playing going?

I was actually in London over the summer, but only for 2 nights before I headed to Dover and hopped on a boat. I would have liked to stay longer and see more, although at least I managed to get down to Denmark Street and get some Delano pickups!
