Ah, another happy convert! It warms the heart. Now go forth and buy all his recorded works.

i love victor wooten's message. his music (esp the grooves) is excellent. the man himself, while not the best looker ever, is awesome

but i think his contribution to bass is overexaggerated by his ability to play many notes*

*not to imply that is the extent of his musical talent

I saw Vic last night (9/01) he was great, the whole band was. Jeff Coffin is amazing at improv too.

Vic's wicita-wicita double thumb stuff is cool, but the guy can solo in beautiful phrases, with subtle quotes to a variety of other tunes and jazz standards and he can pull off some of the most elegant flowing lines around.

This guy is a master of the instrument, like Charlie Parker or Coltrane on theirs.

Bela smokes too...

Say What? Which Victor Whooten are you looking at? The man is as handsome as could be. In addition, he is wholly a beautiful person. Victor doesn't play bass; he is the bass.

JMHO!

Wait, please don't do that.

Don't blindly buy someone's music just because they are the ones producing it, if you do that, you are no better than a Slayer fan. I love Slayer, but I wouldn't dream of owning everything they made, because they made some garbage. Wooten, I love a lot of Flecktones stuff, but his solo stuff bores me to tears or is so cheesy I can't bear to listen to it without feeling uncomfortable.

I say, get some more Wooten, but take advantage of the fact that you can use the internet to find clips from his albums. I'm a big Flecktones fan, I almost bought "Ying and Yang" at FYE, but it was like 25 bucks, whereas, I could buy a two Gentle Giant albums for that price, I bought the Gentle Giant albums, and later found some clips of "Ying and Yang" and was so thankful that I didn't buy it. Made me appreciate the Gentle Giant albums all the more.

With this post, I am not suggesting that it is a "fact" that A) Wooten's solo stuff is all awful (I haven't heard it all) B) Slayer is amazing or C) That Gentle Giant is amazing. Because it's all my opinion, you might love Wooten's solo stuff, I'm just saying listen first.

BTW: I am suggesting that it is a fact that Gentle Giant is awesome.

I have a question...how come when some kid tries to get information on a certain effect, amp or bass, like 50 people rip him for not using the search engine...but I see at least 50 threads a week about the same guys (Wooten, Flea, Jaco etc.) and no one says a word?????????

I saw the Flecktones at L. L. Bean in Freeport, ME on Saturday night. It was a free concert, so I wanted to go early, but I ended up getting there about 15 min before the show started. That turned out to be a good thing, because I walked around behind the stage (it was outside) and ended up sitting almost ON the stage--about 10 feet from Victor. It was fantastic. That band is incredibly talented.

I brought the control cavity cover for my bass (not the whole bass like some people did), and he signed it and shook my hand and everything. It's hard to beat what was basically free backstage passes to a Flecktones show.

That's the show I was at too. You're right, can't beat a free concert!

Where you from Max? I'm in Auburn.

My dad is a big flecktones fan, and he got me into their stuff. I have vic's solo album 'A show of Hands' and thought it was pretty good. not great, but for $10 it was well worth it

I caught them Friday night in Lowell and Saturday at LL Bean. Amazing stuff.
His solo Friday was the best I've seen him do. In a way it was too bad Freeport had the early curfew, because Vic's solo seemed a little shorter than normal. Could be me, but it just seemed that way.

What a fun show though. Got to talk to Jeff for a long time right after soundcheck. All great guys, amazing players... I'd see them any chance I get.

Wow, I'm happy so many people were at the LL Bean show like I was. I had no idea so many Talk Bass people were in the area? It was an amazing show for sure. It was my second time seeing Victor and I was even more impressed this time.

Vic is a great talent but I'm not sure I'd go that far...
