On bassplayer.tv they have a clinic with Victor and he goes through this stuff in depth. Its really truly interesting. |

Last time I saw him, there was this blind guy who came to talk to him and immediately when he saw him, he took all the time in the world to let the blind guy touch him so that he would feel at ease. He even tried his bass and gave him feedback.
Anyway, you guys should really read his book The Music Lesson, he goes in depth with his whole philosophy on music. Very interesting and light read. |

| | | | Wonderful guy and of course a great player.
If you enjoyed that clip, you might want to check out the DVD he did called 'Making Music'. It has some great playing (Carter B. from Dave Mathews is also part of the DVD), and it talks about the idea of conceptualizing tunes and building parts, etc.... i.e., translating chops and technique into 'music'. It's quite good, and fun to watch on a variety of levels IMO. |

In Montana they have signs over bars that say,"Before engaging your mouth, make sure your mind is in gear!"

| | | | Wooten is from my neck of the woods...so I've seen him many times/many years.
My best story is this-
Back in the early '90s, the Flecktones are playing a free show/outside for the Norfolk Jazz Fest.
My girlfriend wants Victor's autograph...I'm in the beer line & see her talking to him. Problem? She doesn't have anything for him to sign...so I see her running to the T-Shirt stand & run back to get Vic's autograph. This took 4-5 minutes.
To Vic's credit, he stood there & waited the whole time.
Bear in mind, this is Vic's town & he had many friends & family members waiting backstage for him.
I'm back together with this girl again(after a 12-year break)...she is still a big Wooten fan & she still has that T-shirt.

Rudy (sax) is the one that totally blew my mind at one impromptu 'jam' at a local music store.

I have a headache now. | Same here, it's irritating as hell. If I'd been in Victor's shoes (I wish, I wish), I'd have got annoyed real quick. |
