The best way I know how to describe it (and I've played it) is that it has enough "fret buzz" to make it sound "middle eastern". Vague terms I know, but that's the best I could come up with. Now that I think about it, it could be strung up A D G C, but I don't remember. It's been 8 years since I played it. He also owns a Read bass that is really strange. It has a full fretboard for the top four strings, and a partial fretboard for the 5th and 6th strings (played that too....strange). I'm sure there's a pic on his web site. Other than that, he owns one of Stanley Clark's Alembic basses, and he and Steve Bailey own Stanley's huge blonde URB together. And there are a few other misc basses that don't see much playing time, like (I think) and old Vox or some other kind of "Beatle bass" copy.

I found a pic of him with a 5-string Read bass, but not a 6-string. The Vox bass was his first bass.
