Geddy Lee is my all time favorite bass player. Has any1 heard abt his music education? Did he learn by himself?

Pretty sure he taught himself. Said he learned on Chris Squire and Jack Bruce kind of stuff, which explains his style today.

In the late '80's I remember reading that he was taking piano lessons. A few years later I read that he started, but never got very far with them. And I think that was the extent of his formal education.

I also remember reading that Alex Lifeson took some classical guitar lessons, again, as a sort of continuing education thing. And abandoned them.

Music is in people's heads and in their ears. I think music education can bring that music out of them, but if they're determined enough they'll find it on their own.
