On Jeff Wayne's, The War of the Worlds, What bass is Herbie Flowers playing? I think it's a P-bass, but i'm not sure.

Knowing Flowers, it would be a blue '62 jazz with extremely old flatwounds.

about time someone brought up this album, it really is a great one for playing along to!

Herbie's Fender is actually pre-1962. It's an extremely rare prototype of what was launched as the Fender Jazz.

He uses Rotosound Tru-Bass strings, which are left on for years at a time.

I stand corrected. I read about him in Bassist years ago, my memories are a bit hazy!

Herbie's bass

I'm a huge fan of Herbie... a true all-rounder

His bass is a 1959 blue Fender jazz, with tru-bass strings... often repaired with gaffa tape!!

He bought it in New York for a mere $79 :-)
