Wayman Tisdale

Sign in to disble this ad

I knew him as a power forward in the NBA but was recently reintroduced to him as a bass player. Maybe I was a little slow in this but, in any case, I think he's quite good and have really enjoyed his albums/songs. Anyone else here a fan?

I discovered his music for myself on Pandora. (Link is to "Wayman Tisdale Radio" on Pandora, in case you'd like to check it out.)

Wayman is a suprisingly good bassist! Tutored by Marcus Miller but plays very much in the style of Stanley Clarke. I dig Tis!

Terrible news about Wayman, though... his cancer has caused doctors to amputate his lower right leg:

Get well soon, man.

Yeah, unfortunately on his myspace page, awhile ago (last year) I think the doctors had thought they had it in remission, sucks though.

Yes, I was saddened to hear of his ongoing struggle and the turn it has taken recently. However, he is staying strong and positive.

From the home page of his site:

"I have complete faith that with the Lord’s blessings this surgery will eliminate the cancer from my body and I’ll soon be back on the road doing what I do best. After recovery and rehab I plan to resume touring in the Fall.

By the time January rolls around, I will be dancing on the deck onboard the 'Smooth Jazz Cruise' that I host annually."

More power to you brother. My best to you and may you have a speedy recovery.

I lost my closest friend to bone cancer 14 years ago, the treatments and sucess rate have gone up dramatically and it sounds like Wayman and his Dr's are being agressive in his treatment...

Blessings and thoughts to the TIS'

That's what I thought, and I started listening for him on 107.7 after the first couple of listens, thinking the very same thing.

I started listening to him before I knew anything about his NBA career... Never really followed basketball, so when I found out he was a player, and an All-Star no less, I definitely got a little jealous...

I mean, to be a great ball player AND a great bassist?

His CDs were always in my wife's car, while his albums might have been a little to smooth* for me, I always dug his playing, groove and tone. I really hope he overcomes is medical problems!

I feel the same about another great player, Gerald Veasley....also found in wifey's car.

Veasley does pop up on things 'less than Smooth'...the Zawinul Syndicate is one.

Last evening, Sports Center did mention Tisadle as a "Jazz star & a terrific bass player".

"In the zone" is a good piece of work, for anyone not familiar, I'd try that CD. Also, "power forward", is a good one too. Power forward was his first CD, followed by In the zone.

I enjoyed this clip of him on YouTube.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uD4tDYRz_tA

The music is a bit on the smoothe side for me but I really enjoyed his playing.

With such a positive personality and attitude, here's to hoping he conquers this disease.

Tis is a really cool guy. He has been pretty positive thru this whole thing. Most awesome moment of my last year besides my new engagment and family was seeing waymans home studio. At that time he was still in treatmeant so it wasn't in use. But you could feel the good vibes oozing from the basses thru the cases.

Tis stay up bro keep the faith
