Just wanted to put in a word for Wayman Tisdale and band. I had a chance to see them this past Friday night, after two previous dates cancelled, at the Whitaker Center in Harrisburg, PA. It was a great concert with rock-solid musicianship.
For those who are not aware, Wayman, who was a basketball star in college, on the Olympic "Dream Team" and then in the NBA, made his move to smooth jazz music an continued down the path of being a "star." It seems he has been successful in everything he tries. Last year he lost his lower right leg to bone cancer, hence the reason dates had to cancel.
As much as I was impressed by the music (the band was smokin'), I was very impressed by what Wayman shared about his journey over the past year. It was impressive to hear him speak of God's faithfulness. Wayman has every reason in the world to be resentful having lost his leg - a man who was the epitome of athleticism now being escorted to a stool on the stage while walking with a cane. Yet Wayman showed a wonderful smile almost constantly, joked with the audience, interacted with his band, and was a sheer delight to observe the entire evening. I had respected him as a talented musician. I now respect him as an incredible human being and impressive man of God.
For a little more than 2 hours Wayman and band served up a great concert (and some things to ponder). It was well worth the wait and Wayman is a true class act individual!
