Wayman Tisdale: The Fonk Record

How many of you have checked this out? I bought it today, and it's a whole lot of fun! It is a tribute to Parliament/Funkadelic Bootsy style grooves that I'm sure Wayman grew up enjoying. He and Derek Allen (a killer bassist himself) did the production and shared the bass duties. Wayman Tisdale did a whole lot of the vocals and he sounds great!

Listening to this record made me flash back to the first time I ever heard of Wayman Tisdale. There was a news story about him NBC News when he was still a high school recruit, and I remember that it ended with him playing a Peavey T-40 at his Dad's church, upside down and left handed as he always did!
I'm really sad the brother is gone, but this CD is neat little tribute to a great man who had a great life, it was just short.

I picked it up a couple weeks back, I really dig it for the old school vibe. George Duke is on the album and it also reminds me of some of his 70's work, fun stuff!

I've had it for a while. Good record. It's got the "fonk" alright! Gone too soon! He'll be missed!

Haven't heard this recording, but I've always liked WT for a whole lot of reasons.

Different question: Was he still primarily using his Tobias instruments for his main recording work? So many of his tracks have that sound that seems so heavily influenced by Stanley Clarke's tone. Just wondering what he was using to get there.

Glad to hear the comments about this record. I've been considering picking it up and just probably will now.
