It was very inspiring but sad film and a great tribute to a great guy who left us too soon

Just like Wayman, my son Trevor was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in his right knee in late 2008. It was in researching the disease, that I first learned of Wayman's battle with cancer and I began to follow Wayman's progress more closely. The doctors were able to save Trevor's leg by replacing his right knee and most of the bone in his leg with metal prosthetics, but this would only be the start of his fight against this disease. Just 2 months after the surgery, as Trevor was just beginning what would become 6 long months of intense chemotherapy, Wayman lost his battle with this horrible disease.
I was devastated that such an amazing human being had lost his battle to the same disease my son was now fighting. Listening to Wayman's music has taken on a special meaning for me now. I have always been hesitant to share Wayman's story with Trevor as we try to keep him focused only the positive, but with this film coming out, maybe it is time. Besides the wonderful music that will forever live on, Wayman's life should serve as a perfect example to everyone that it's not how much time we spend on this Earth that matters, it's what we do with the time that we are given that counts. This is a lesson I remind my son of quite often.
Trevor's cancer has been in remission for almost 2 years now. He is attending community college and will receive his associate's degree this fall. He recently switched his major to molecular biology and wants to complete his master degree and pursue a career in cancer research. http://www.waymantisdale.org/index.html

Every time I hear his song "Grateful" from his Rebound album, it gets me. We all should be grateful for what we have: the ability to play music. |

Your standard P or Jazz bass would just be a toy to a guy that size. I always thought if I was that big and had enough money I'd have a bass custom made with like a 38-inch scale.
You don't find people that gifted in both athletics and music very often. |

| | I'm a tumbler, born under punches | | Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: Northern California | | | Jerry Reynolds, the Sacramento Kings announcer/director of player personnel and former coach was fond of saying that, "if you don't like Wayman Tisdale, then you just don't like people."
Wayman ALWAYS looked like he was enjoying himself playing basketball. The lasting memory I have of him as a player is him down in the blocks, ball outstretched in his left hand as he dipped his shoulder looking for which way he wanted to make his post move. And usually with a big smile.
I've known a few people that worked for the Kings and travelled with the team. They all said that after games the rest of the guys would hit the town and Wayman would head back to the hotel and thump on his bass until the wee hours.
His music isn't really in my wheelhouse but his musical talent and determination are undeniable and his zeal for music and life were absolutely infectious. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
