I just saw "It might get loud" and it came to me in the 8 yrs of being a player/student of both electric and contra there are not movies about bass or its players. If there are any you inform me of them. |

| | | I don't know why we never get any attention.. well, if you're some show off bass player that plays leads all of the time in bands with a few guitars in such, then you'll get attention. But us rythm keepers (the best/ "true" bassists ) never get a decent amount of attention. I play in a three piece band, so i get treated equally (especially since I'm a co-founder/ 50% lyricist, and not just "the bassist" as some people think of us) and it's nice, but my lead singer/ guitarist still gets more of the attention then i do. But i think people notice the pounding rythm section we have going on, and that gives me a decent amount of respect. I only care a little bit amount attention, though. Getting credit for things I've done is more important to me. But all in all, i just like to play, and if people don't notice me, i could give a **** less, at least I'm having fun, you know? |

If there were more lead singers and famous people that played bass and allowed the public to know what a bass was in the first place, bass players in general would get more recognition.

Ken | No offense mate, but there is no way you could ever call Sid a bass player.

He did however hold a bass on stage, and once in a while when he hit it made a sound that actually went with the music.

Ken | I remember reading that they used to have him unplugged for shows.

I just thought of another Bassist movie, The Soloist. Although they show him more on Violin and Cello, the character Jaimie Foxx played in the movie, in real life his first instrument was the Double Bass. If I remember right.
OK just double checked: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nathaniel_Ayers
He was a bassist when he entered Julliard.

(however, prolly not much respect) | I believe there is a big difference between "getting attention" and "getting respect". Ironically, "not getting too much attention" was the very thing that attracted me to the bass world in the first place as I'm one of those odd people who actually prefer being out of the spotlight.
As a former singer/guitarist 20+ years ago, I used to hate the idea of being in the center of attention all the time. Today, as a bassist, I can enjoy myself more when I'm doing my own thing without having to draw too much attention to myself. I also feel you can command plenty of respect as a bass player, including self-respect, simply by striving for excellence whether or not people actually notice what you're doing.

About a double bassist talking about his instrument. Turns out, he hates it and living life as a musician.
