the weird tunings thread

show me some weird tunings! if possible, could you 'explain' the tuning? by that i mean put for example: E dropped to C#, A Raised to C etc. etc.

here is the Kim Gordon Sonic Youth tunings:
F#F#GA
CDEG? this was on the fretboard of one of her basses, so i assumed that this was that basses tuning.

these are the only tunings on her that i found.

one rule: no bass is allowed to be tuned in 4ths. it can be tuned in 3rds, 5ths, anything, just no 4ths.

A wonderful finnish metal band called Stam1na tunes to A-D-A-D. They even used to have a 5 stringed bass without the two highest strings

Been experimenting with DGDA tuning on my electric acoustic fretless, and boy does it sound good! Especially as I'm using Labella's black nylon wound strings... really deep and rich indeed. What a way to invigorate a flagging interest in an instrument which, up until I used the new tuning, just sat in a corner gathering dust!

My fake metal band tunes everything up a half-step.

Also, my regular band, for some songs has tuned to DEAD, EGAD, DEAF, DEED, FA...you know where I'm going with this one, DADD, etc.

Also I have a song where I'm in E Bb F# G.
